"In terms of both production and post production, I'm a great believer in the value of timecode on film for speed, economy and convenience. The one thing that I've wanted addressed economically for years was the fact that for this operation you needed audio preroll. If you wanted to sync on the fly in telecine - about 5 or 6 seconds of vision preroll was also needed to allow the DAT to catch up - mind you that was usually the duration of a slate anyway! The BIG news for fast telecine syncing or even syncing from tape is AATON's new INSTASYNC module for their Keylink telecine code reader and their new non linear audio station called IndawPass. By transferring your timecoded DATs to IndawPass you can instantly sync from video tape (using the 3 lineVITC) or remove the JAZ or SYQUEST cartridge containing the audio to use on KEYLINK in telecine. The result - no more preroll anywhere and sync pictures within a few frames of the flash frame - giving the telecine colourist more time to get our pictures right!"
